Did you know: About “Black Sunday”
When Disneyland first opened, it was later referred to (and still is to this day) as Black Sunday. This was due to a series of mishaps during the first day, including over double the number of park guest being in the park (many people scaled the walls to gain access), unseasonably hot day (over 100 degrees) combined with the lack of water fountains, food ran out and some of the restrooms were shutdown. Women’s heals also sank into the freshly poured asphalt.
