Making flying better: Essentials

Here are some expert tips on what frequent fliers do for a better flight experience.

  • Register for either TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry for expedited security clearance in the United States.
  • Choose a specific airline to be loyal with domestically (i.e. 90% of their flights go through this airline network). See our article earlier this month on Reason to be loyal to an airline.
  • Register for a frequent flyer program on every airline they fly on; being sure to complete the entire airline profile (i.e. Seat preferences, Pre-Check numbers, Contact Email, etc).
  • Have the credit card provided by that specific airline, often providing complimentary checked bags, discount for in-flight services and food, as well as often limited travel insurance.
  • Have AirCare travel benefits.
  • Have the airline application install on their smartphone.

As infrequent travelers, it is also very helpful to review the TSA Travel Checklist which includes helpful information regarding packing with security screening in mind. Of particular note are the 3-1-1 Liquids Rule and the list of Prohibited Items (which is updated frequently).
