New federal rule from the DOT prohibits passengers from packing e-cigs in checked bags

In two weeks a new rule by the Department of Transportation will make the transportation of e-cigs or other battery operated smoking devices illegal. This new restriction is the result of several incidents of batteries overheating or catching fire in unattended spaces. This change follows a series of restrictions related to the carriage of loose batteries in checked luggage as well.

Currently these devices are permitted as carry on luggage, however passengers are still prohibited from using these devices while on any aircraft.
